These measures were taken due to safety concerns, lack of bomb shelter, building deterioration and lack of funds. Added permitting issues, increased prices for materials and labor in wartime, coupled with ongoing insecurity and uncertainty in southern Israel, resulting in this much needed renovation being delayed time and time again.
But, thanks to the perseverance of the Center’s director and with support of the RJCF community, we’re pleased to share good news of progress: after receiving the necessary permits and securing initial funding, construction began at the start of 2025. Over the past 3 months, the Boston Sderot Community Center has undergone major renovations. The ceiling, floors, and walls were rebuilt to create a safe, modern, and welcoming environment for learning.
Most importantly, the Center now has just finished building a brand new bomb shelter finally making it secure and safe for the students and staff.
This is a work in progress though: the work on additional rooms, including carpentry work, installing AC units needs to be finished, and the classroom must be outfitted with essential items, i.e., projectors, classroom supplies, electronics to serve the hundreds of kids that rely on the Center for learning, friendship, safety and support.
The community center’s staff and attendants are very excited for their beloved place to finally be fixed and lifted to the high standard held in similar buildings throughout the city.
And there’s much more to do! However, this can’t be done without your support: the Boston Sderot Community Center needs your help to make the Center home to the people of Sderot again.
