Уход за могилами на еврейском кладбище Санкт-Петербурга
This project is very important to the Jews whose family history goes back to St.-Petersburg, Russia.A few months ago the Jewish Community of St.-Petersburg, Russia started a unique Internet-project (www.jekl.ru). It allows to find any of the 80,000 graves at St.-Petersburg Jewish Cemetery and to order the remote grave upkeep service. Visit website www.jekl.ru for more information or read a letter from Chief Rabbi of St.-Petersburg, Russia, M.-M. Pewzner: "... I’m writing to you about the project our Jewish community undertakes. This project is very important to the Jews whose family history goes back to St.-Petersburg, Russia. ... A few months ago we started the Internet-project www.jekl.ru. It allows to find any of the 80 000 graves at St.-Petersburg Jewish Cemetery and to order the remote grave upkeep service. There are many Jews living in Israel, USA, Canada and other countries, whose ancestors are buried in St.-Petersburg. Very often these people ask our community for help in locating their ancestor’s grave. They feel bad, knowing that their ancestors’ graves are neglected and uncared-for. To those people, the website www.jekl.ru is the key to solving their problems. By inserting into the search field the buried person’s family name, initials and the years of birth / death, one can find the photo and location of any grave at St.-Petersburg Jewish Cemetery. Without leaving the website, one can order the grave upkeep service, which includes general cleaning-up, tombstone restoration, fence painting etc. As far as I know, this is the first Internet project of this kind. The Jewish Community of St.-Petersburg receives hundreds of letters of gratitude from the Jews who have found their ancestor’s grave-sites. The Internet-project www.jekl.ru can be helpful to hundreds of thousands more people, who honor their roots, their family history, the memory of their ancestors. This is why spreading this information is most important. With blessing, M.-M. Pewzner, Chief Rabbi of St.-Petersburg, Russia | |
